On May 24, 2017, the United Nations General Assembly adopted the 71/288 Resolution on the role of language professionals in connecting nations and promoting peace, and it announced September 30 as International Day of Translation to honor translators’ role in fostering global development and emphasizing their role in political and cultural multilateralism and multilingualism.
As translators celebrate their creativity, longevity and unity, the International Federation of Translators chose the issue of copyright to be this year’s theme to recognize translations as original creative works in their own right that deserve to be protected by copyright protection under the Berne Convention to ensure the future sustainability of the profession of translation.
